Nice finds, interesting that women who wear dirndls or German peasant/ folk dresses are usually barefoot. Wondering if this is the custom, perhaps Hal Heaven would know.
This Russian site is great though chaotic as it covers each and every aspect of barefooting conceivable albeit in Russian which means I have to do everything through Google Translate |

let me chime in here :-)
these are actually austrian ones, i was pretty surprised to see these pictures in there because these were from a companay (Moser-Fashion) here from austria. in a lot of advertisment you will see them barefoot, but in real life, not so often. the chances to see a dirndl worn barefoot were bigger in the pre-ballerina era, when girls used to wear high-heels with them, they more often tossed them and went barefoot for dancing or when they walked home drunk , but since ballerinas came en-vogue, most girls wear now ballerinas to the dirndl. These Dirndls are traditional form as well a formal wear (like a suite) of clothing here in austria, and especially on the countryside all girls are dressed like that when going to some local festives (which usually accounts for huge amounts of alcohol) The Boys are usually dressed in a lederhosen! (but who wants to know that But also in Bavaria (Southern Germany) the Dirndl is very popular and a traditional clothing. I´m sure most of you know the munich octoberfest, which lasts 2 weeks around october and females usually wear a Dirndl on the visit. in Northern Germany, i dont think Dirndl is that popular, isnt it? |
