Showing her bare feet and dusty soles to the camera in public requires a lot of self confidence from Aliyaa. Especially on the bus she feels like everyone is watching her while she is trying to get her sweet soles black for you. Even though it was a cooler day, we had to do the shoot in the later afternoon. Around noon even a girl, which is used to go barefoot regularly cannot walk on the scorching hot ground without shoes. The streets of Calcutta are definitely not one of the cleanest places on earth. But for some strange reason it is hard for Aliyaa to get her soles more than dusty. It is most likely because the skin of her soles is rather leathery and dry than soft and sweaty. From an experimental point of view we can say: dry soles catch less dirt and dust than sweaty soles. The preview pictures and the trailer on dirty-soles.com give you an impression of Aliyaas barefoot tour through Calcutta. Enjoy it …

Nice pictures. Thanks Dartmouth.
I agree with your remark about differences between dry (and hard), soles, and soft soles from a dust collecting point of view. I noticed it in many of my photosessions. |
