I was walking in a city in Northern U.S. today. At a train station, I saw a couple in which the guy said something in the effect that he would wipe dirt from her shoes. She then took off her shoes and then put her socks in pocket, walking around barefoot. Her feet were actually somewhat dirty (which means she might have walked barefoot somewhere previously). I stood there for a few minutes and loved how she showed her feet there. She was also smoking, but unfortunately did not step on it barefoot as she put it off to save it for later. I would love to stay longer, but I had to take the train at the time. It was a good sighting, however
Anyone here also from the United States on this forum/site? |

Yes, New York City. The US really isn't a good place to see barefoot girls, except in a few locations. In the last 8 years in New York, I've seen only 2 real barefoot hippie girls. I think part of it is a more uptight culture than in Germany, and part is the climate, which (in New York) is too cold in the winter and too hot in the summer for barefooting. The west coast, with its milder climate and more laid-back lifestyle has some barefoot hippies, and smaller cities with colleges (Ithaca, New York; Madison, Wisconsin; Asheville, North Carolina) often have the hippie element too. I need to get back to Germany in the summer. I was in Munich in April once and it was too chilly for there to be any barefoot girls. I want to get to Berlin in the summer. |

I was in LA and Venice probably 20 years ago. Hardly anyone barefoot, even on the boardwalk area. I had no problem barefooting in two malls, I was the only one. I then went on to SF and only a couple of barefooters in Haight-Ashbury! One girl with very dirty feet was in Ben & Jerrys, we chatted for a while. Times have (sadly) changed.... |
