At this youTube link I found one videos of Saba Douglas-Hamilton (but there are many other).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W9utHYdsSFM&feature=related

She is a naturalist that make documentary on wild nature place, and in most of them is barefoot.
In this one she lead a camel over a difficult rocky path.
She sould be on very hot place,so the rocks must be sharp but also very hot.
In the short video she walk without a flinch....

Thanks for the other links.

Is clear that Saba Douglas-Hamilton has very tough leather soles !

Maybe is possible to contact her for have her direct experience / photos / videos,
at the end she is a naturalist, not an actress or VIP person...

I've been trying to find an article or something that would explain why she's barefoot so often, especially in particularly harsh terrain. I can't believe that no reporter has ever asked that question! She must have her reasons...
If anyone finds some article where she talks about her barefoot habits and her motivations, please post it!!

Take a look at:

http://women.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_an...icle3386744.ece

&

http://animal.discovery.com/fansites/wildk...rt/expert8.html

I love her answer to the barefoot question in the second link - 'There's not much point in wearing shoes in Africa, unless there are thorns', & we know from the video evidence she doesn't even always bother then either (see the catching of the baby elephant vid).

Very interesting links , thanks !

In Africans lands / forest, besides thorns and very sharp and hot rocks / gravel, can be dangerous bugs and animals like : spiders,snakes,scorpions...
If small can be difficult to see.

But , for me, the answer of Saba Douglas-Hamilton means that : if a lot of africans people go always barefeet for all the life, why not do the same ?

If you watch the photos in the previus links, you can se that Saba walk barefeet on that terrain from when she was a child,so her soles are well used to this.

I think she have very strong leather soles !
