Here are some photos (scanned by me) of people of my little town (Italy),taken in the 50/55'

Unfortunately are in b/w and low quality (but is normal for photo so old..).

I have talked with the men who taked this picture and his wife, because are friend of my grand-father (now are about 80 years old)

They say that until the 50/55' most of the people in my county were farmer, and were very poor, they had only one pair of wood clog,
and had to preserve it for almost 2/3 year, because they do no had money to buy another pair.

So , from march (end of the winter) to october, they walk always barefeet, every where : in the field, green, woods,at school,
over gravel road (at that time almost all road were made of soil and gravel),even in the barn.
And go barefeet all people of all the age : man , women , child.

They say that the first day worked barefeet, after the winter , they had a bit hurt , beacause their soles , wearing clog douring
the winter, beacome more tender.
But after 3/4 month their soles beacome so tough and hard that they can walk over chestnut thorn without any hurt.

After,in the 60/65',people get more money, better lifestyle, and stop to go barefeet.
From about 70',all people walked and worked with shoes.

I like it that many of the women appear to be formally dressed, and yet still don't wear shoes.
