A nice video of this typical folk dance from Peru
http://www.lostroveroscriollos.com/video.php?contentID=238 And some interesting comments here: http://www.peruvianmusic.org/marinera-%E2%...s-elegant-dance "The female dancer in this marinera type dances barefoot regardless of the substrate, and a woman who makes a profession out of dancing the Marinera Nortena usually practices enough to build up thick calluses on her soles so that she can dance on sun-heated pavement or rough asphalt comfortable. The male dancer wears shoes. " -------------------- Regards

Nice and interesting.
For be "in theme" I found this south italian dance, called "pizzica" or "taranta". Here some link (but searcing on youtube for the names you will find many other) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y6Ujpl89Qmc&feature=fvw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MeGyKR4jrZI&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ydfp9nvhdNc&feature=related This dance descent from an ancient ritual, but the story is not very important, the important think is that the girls dancing it must be barefeet (and train barefeet). In the past was danced by country workers girls, that had always barefeet,so already had very tough feet, and dance every where, normally in field ground but also over gravel road... Now girls that want start this type of folk dance have to "make hard soles". At the end,due to the fact that now almost no girls want to make, soles tough and callused,to avoid to loose the tradition, some young dancer start to dance wearing shoes, but in many place you can find some young girls trained to dance barefeet.... |
