Having checked what is available in the medical literature, I think there may be an avenue for research here!
Firstly, my own interest: I'm male, and like going barefoot on varied surfaces because it improves my mood (I'm slightly bipolar). But when I start to do so, there is a transient sexual reaction (focused on the prostate gland, if anyone is interested in the details). This I understand to be synaesthesia, which I have for sound-to-vision (seeing patterns in reaction to unexpected sounds).
As a result, I have an attraction for women going barefoot, because I've taken it as a sexual "come-on" signal. That means I'm not a classic foot-fetishist, because I focus on the person. This especially since my first love as a teenager was a 17-year-old blonde girl who used to walk to and from school for five kilometres with bare feet, and who went out of her way to cross rough ground. She dressed neatly, too; mini-skirts with blouses or tight pullovers, and hair up.
As is well-known, almost all foot-fetishists are male. But, how common is it for women to experience a sexual response to going barefoot? (I know that Empress Elisabeth of Russia would orgasm through having her soles tickled.)
Do female foot-fetishists actually exist, either gay or straight (girls who like other peoples' bare feet)? I've never come across a single example.
The evidence is obscured by women going barefoot in order to please their men, as is obvious on the Net. I've come across very few women who care about going barefoot enough so as to campaign for it -is this true in general?
Do women go barefoot in order to improve their mood? I've been told that it improves PMT, and those with serious mental problems can find that it helps a lot. I've know of three schizophrenic girls who loved going barefoot because it helped them "stay in touch with reality".
My main point is, going barefoot amounts to "full body reflexology", and I'm puzzled that not more is made of this, especially by women.
