The thing I keep noticing about the model's public appearances in the these shootings, especially in stores, the Metro, virtually all crowded public places, is the tolerance shown by store workers, Metro workers, and others in official capacities of one kind or another shown to the girls being barefoot. The fellow passengers on the Metro don't seem to leer at the girls or make unwanted verbal suggestions or comments....how very cool this is. I also notice no one trying to harass or hit on these girls as they go about making the shoots...though this may be because of Paul and his vid/cam being along with the model (I guess Paul does most of the filming) or maybe not...Russians may be just more tolerant of a girl wishing to go barefoot in public, and to this I salute the Russian people! In the ever-growing intolerant and uptight U.S., especially in cities like mine, which USED TO BE laid back and tolerant, rude looks, snide, insulting comments, and sheer hostility from store managers seem to be the norm. The infamous sign "No Shirt, No Shoes, No Service" had been replaced by an even more blunt "N0 Bare Feet", or "Shoes Must Be Worn"...never mind that they let gangbanger wannabes come in these public places with their pants hanging down so that most of their dirty underwear shows.
So I have nothing but admiration for Russia (and Italy, Germany, etc.,as well) for this cool, laid back attitude towards bare feet, especially female bare feet! -------------------- Yana, Alyona and Alexandra (colorful dress) are perfection...the sexiest and the prettiest models.

Yeah, that's something that has struck me about the City Feet videos, too. The girls walk around in very public places, but everyone around them minds their own business. They never get hassled or even draw weird looks. I can't imagine it being the same here in the USA.

Weird isn't it? maybe in some cases it's the presence of the cameraman that keeps someone from hitting on the girls, but I notice that they enter the Metro, walking right past the officials, who don't even bat an eye. In some stills I notice children with their mothers looking at the girl's feet, but it's all pretty cool and laid back. Man I sure miss that in the states,,,here in Florida in the 90's it was like that. I always insisted on doing the shopping when I was married...the wife always said, "don't you want me to come with you?" ...and I'd always say "oh no, I can concentrate on what to buy much better when I go alone" -------------------- Yana, Alyona and Alexandra (colorful dress) are perfection...the sexiest and the prettiest models.

I'm always surprised by how surprised our US friends are at the 'tolerance' shown to barefoot girls in Russia and the rest of Europe. Here in the UK too there is absolutely no grief given to barefoot girls - people seem barely to notice and there is certainly no problem with shop assistants, Underground staff, waiters etc. It's live and let live.
What IS the Americans' problem?? Mike123 |

I don't know, but it's INFURIATING to me...how stores will lets some asshole with his pants hanging to his knees...a fat woman I saw in a store with her midrift exposed...but NOOOO to bare feet. Now, I remember in laid back, tolerant days, this redneck looking creep with a pot belly used to come in with just jeans on...no shoes...I though, disgusting shit like this will cause the store owners to demand shoes be worn for sure. But it went on for several more years, really cool with girls strolling in barefoot, and especially near the beach where i lived. One girl, i saw frequently, used to stand there, deliberating what item to buy, making sure to alternately display both soles...always nice and black. One barefoot girl, standing behind me in line, back when you could even smoke in stores....tapped on the shoulder and asked me if I would put her cigarette out... Anyway, to answer your question, it's the damned corporate mentality...the fear of a lawsuit if someone's bare foot steps on something like a piece of glass or something...when actually it's just politically correct BS, as long as droopy drawers and other such atrocities are allowed...and those accursed flip flops. -------------------- Yana, Alyona and Alexandra (colorful dress) are perfection...the sexiest and the prettiest models.

Despite the many misgivings I have about this store, at least Walmart, to their credit, seems to allow barefoot shoppers in their store. I'd rather not even glance at a guy's feet, but I did see a cute girl go shopping last autumn and i thought "well there's hope...maybe a revolution will happen"...and eveb nore recently, in a Dollar General, I saw a teenage girl, with two older women shopping barefoot...I'm glad to say that the younger girl was the only one barefoot.

Yeah, there are exceptions in the States, and sometimes you do see barefoot girls who don't get hassled. Fear of lawsuits is part of it, but I think it goes deeper. There's just a lot of hostility simmering under the surface. For a lot of people, there's a real disconnect between how life is "supposed to be" in the USA, and how it really is, so it leads to a lot of suppressed anger. Angry people take out their frustrations on people who seem a little happier, like girls going barefoot in public. Then the angry people can feel a little better, even though their lives suck.
Just my thoughts on the difference between European and American attitudes, but I could certainly be wrong. -------------------- http://southerncrossfire44.deviantart.com/

I tend to agree with all you've said....the US used to be a better place, that's for sure. -------------------- Yana, Alyona and Alexandra (colorful dress) are perfection...the sexiest and the prettiest models.

Not news here, the US isn't the place overall for going barefoot. I think a lot of it is the insanely massive footwear industry and the saturation of cheap sandals / flip flops that are 'stylish'. In the 70s, the industry was a tiny fraction of what it is now. Girls wore shoes more, flip flops were scant... they'd take their shoes off. It wasn't strange. Now of course it's strange because girls don't have the need to 'take off their shoes'. They've got 27 pairs of flip flops, sandals, shoes, boots, and in between. Moreover shoes have long since become a major focus of style expression and status.
Not *the* reason but it's a major, major contributing factor the world over and particularly in the US. |
