Thought I'd tell all of you about a classic movie with lots of barefooting!
It's Bell, Book and Candle, from 1957. It stars Kim Novak and James Stewart. She plays a sexy witch who puts a spell on poor Jimmy to make him fall in love with her.
Kim is barefooted A LOT, in this movie! It comes out, in one scene, that she got into trouble at school for going barefooted! And there's a nice close-up of her feet (in stockings), later on.
The best scene: She runs out into the street in the middle of winter to try and capture her runaway cat--barefooted!

Posted by: michael0218 Mar 8 2015, 05:07 PM
I've seen that one! I love stuff like that..Kim Novak had an offbeat side to her that was celebrated in her time, I read.
Give you another one....see Modern Times (1936) with Charlie Chaplin and Paulette Goddard.
Paulette stars as the "gamine", a "child of the streets", and is barefoot....walking those dirty city streets in most of the movie. There are shots of her dirty soles, especially after she steals some bread from a bakery and runs away, right into Chaplin, both of them hitting the sidewalk, with Paulette's soles on display.
This is a "must see" for foot fans.

Posted by: dougiezerts Mar 8 2015, 07:49 PM
Sadly, Paulette dons shoes, during the second half of the film! Still, it's great!
Another one to check out is the 1924 version of Peter Pan. Peter is played by Betty Bronson, and she is barefooted throughout the entire film! The opening scene in the bedroom is especially great, as Wendy "sews" Peter's shadow on her feet! The fact that it's "reverse drag"--she's playing a boy--isn't too disconcerting, to me.

Yeah, I was gonna say that at the end it's a letdown, lol.
It's a bit of magic when an actress goes barefoot for the whole film,..speaking of, there's a forties John Wayne film called "Shepherd of the Valley, where Betty Field goes barefoot for the whole movie,..and another one I like is "White Cargo", with Hedy Lamar playing the exotic barefoot tempress,..and very lightly clad as well. She's unshod throughout the film....and one of my favorites, "Alice B. Toklas, I Love You" with beautiful (in 1969) Leigh Taylor-Young plays the barefoot hippie girl, even shoes her at work in a boutique barefoot. This is a treat...

The movie is Shepherd of the Hills , where Betty Fields says she loves the feel of mud between her toes mentioned by jwdf88 on Page 6 of Revial of Barefoot Movies List. Also look for Trail of Lonsome Pine of the same ilk as Shephard of the Hills. There is also a strange Western with Steve Mcqueen -Nevada Smith, where there are barefoot female convicts working in a rice fields in a swamp prison camp. One of the female convicts helps Mcqueen escape ,some nice shots of dirty feet.

Maybe Hal Heaven can help me with this one -Saw really strange 70's or 80's German movie about a poor Swiss Village where everyone is barefoot and in rags in a village of mud and hovels , it's about a brillant organist. lot's of dirty feet with a handful of close ups.

Along similar lines is Bergblut from 2010 -about the fight for Tyrolean independence from Napoleon and a rich girl who falls for a Tyrolean peasant. Some dirty barefeet of peasants and a close up of the rich girl stepping barefoot in a pile of cow dung in extacy and liberation (I'm not making this up)

Swamp Water by Jean Renior has a dirty barefoot girl who is an outcast.

Steamboat Round the Bend with Will Rogers briefly has a dirty outcast girl barefoot in rags who gets cleaned up.

Will think of others

Shepherd of the Hills is really good, was not aware of that one. Thanks for mentioning. Another older one that is quite good is Gone to Earth, where Jennifer Jones' character hates wearing shoes and walks barefoot outside for nearly the entire movie, even though sometimes she is more dressed up. It's also a good movie.

Posted by: michael0218 Mar 11 2015, 02:31 PM
Captain of Castille is another ...with Jean Simmons who plays the barefoot barmaid throughout the movie (I believe throughout, anyway).

Posted by: michael0218 Mar 11 2015, 02:34 PM
There's also a delicious soles sequence of Mariel Hemmingway in the movie Personal Best.

Posted by: michael0218 Mar 11 2015, 02:36 PM
I'm really fond of Jodie Foster for her many barefoot appearances in the movies she's done,...notably Panic Room, where there's a nice dirty soles shot.

Thanks for letting me know the name of the movie "Shepherd of the Hills". I could not figure out the name.

Anyways, anyone here have Netflix? Well a new release came out which you can watch for free call "Barefoot" which is a remake of the German movie barfuss. The star Evan Rachel Wood is barefoot in the hospital, strip joint bar, streets, rich mansion, airplane, and bus station.

Anyone else know any good barefoot movies we can watch right away on netflix?

Also one to watch is the 1934 cult classic horror film "The Island of Lost Souls" with Kathleen Burke as the "Panther Woman"...in skimpy island garb and barefoot throughout....she's a dark haired beauty as well.

Does it have to be classic movies?
We can make this thread Barefoot Movies Thread Revival 2.0. smile.gif

A reminder: in the old thread the exploitation movie The Hitchhikers was mentioned as a great barefoot movie and it's true. I was crazy trying to find this movie until I bought it in iOffer. Lately the movie has been added to the site Wip Films (Women in Prison Films) and can be downloaded. If you didn't watch it do yourself a favor. It's a pity that the quality is so bad because there are a lot of barefoot, hippie, criminal women.

Anyone knows the name of the german movie about the organist in a swiss village? Couldn't find it.

No, it really doesn't have to be classics, ...and I'm all for such a thread. great idea! cool.gif

GONE TO EARTH. A British film. Jennifer Jones stars as a gypsy girl who marries a priest, but has an affair.
She's barefoot throughout most of the movie--even goes into a pub barefooted! And there's a great close-up of her feet, too!

Just found "Down to Earth" in YouTube

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lq15RmpW2jY

Posted by: DBF Mar 15 2015, 01:37 PM
Good to know it's on YouTube, hopefully the quality is ok, if not you can search for a dl or buy a dvd. There were two versions of this, the other version was called The Wild Heart. Huge fights between the directors Powell, Pressburger and the producer David O Selznick. Jenny Jones was Selznick's protégé, He gave the project to Rouben Mamolain. Trying to find second version to see if there is more foot content.

Some silents worth looking at are Tod Browning's West of Zanzibar and it's remake Kongo, both have the fallen daughter of a missionary who becomes a prostitute in Africa , and is barefoot and in rags.

Kitty with Paulette Goddard is another one where she is a barefoot gutter wench in 18th century London. Only first 15 minutes but good.

Hammer's Captain Kronos Vampire Hunter features a barefoot girl,

Have to go through the films of Jean Rollin as there are many and he seems to like feet.

Will think of others.

Contemporary Hollywood just doesn't seem to like dirty feet, everything is manipedi ugh!

Posted by: dougiezerts Mar 15 2015, 02:48 PM
Gone to Earth is the longer version of the film.
I've seen Kongo, and the actress is NOT barefooted, in it! Sad, because she walks in the mud, in one scene.
Another great film: Daisies, from 1966. It's a rarely-seen Czech film about the (mis)adventures on two sisters. They're barefooted a lot. The opening scene shows then sitting with their soles in front of the camera!
(I have screen shots; PM me, if you're interested.)

I fully agree with DBF : contemporary,I mean of the last 2/3 years, do not have interesting barefooting scenes, even less girls barefeet for all the film.

The only I know is

- Barefoot (2014)

the other I remember :

- Trespass (2011) : Nicole Kidman is barefeet for most part of the film but only inside her house (where is imprisoned...)

Then I have to go back in memory of at least 10 years :

- Practical Magic (also with Kidman 1998)

- Beyond Rangoon (1995) : Patricia Arquette barefeet for most of the film,in rural environement (and is also a good film)

Although dirty feet are still rare in Hollywood these days I think barefoot is becoming much more common in mainstream. Films in the eighties and the nineties and most of the first decade of the 21th century always showed people wearing sneakers in the house. Now in a lot of movies you can find barefoot women and a considerable amount of shots.

It seems the horror movie It Follows - that has been praised by many critics as one of the best horror movies in decades - has a lot of bare feet from the lead actress Maika Monroe. I didn't see the movie and I will probably only see it after the Blu Ray release because the film is not scheduled for any cinema in Brazil, it seems.

Another film I heard had bare feet was Butterfly Effect with the gorgeous Carice Van Houten. I am looking for it right now.

Likewise "The Hitchhikers", from Ferd & Beverly Sebastian "Gator Bait" (1974). Claudia Jenings, a former playmate, lives in a swamp and is barefoot throughout the whole movie.

cool.gif Yeah, Gator Bait is great...loved it.

Two more: Black Butterfly - gorgeous Carice Van Houten's character has a penchant for taking off her shows and walking barefoot in the streets. She spends most of the movie barefoot but sometimes you can't quite tell. Good movie about Apatheid.[I]

Ruby and Rata - still didn't see but Barefoot Spring says the lead woman is sometimes (not often?) barefoot even when talking to a state official.

One somewhat recent movie barefoot girl movie is "Burning Bright" from 2010. There isn't really any outdoor barefooting, but the lead actress, Briana Evigan, is barefoot for most of it, and you get several closeups of her feet.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1244658/?ref_=nv_sr_1

Also, the same actress is in 2009's "S.Darko," where she and another actress (Daveigh Chase) have a few good outdoor barefoot scenes.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1231277/?ref_=nm_flmg_act_22

Now, I wouldn't claim either of these to be good movies, but the barefoot scenes are great.

Oh, and one more oldie, but goodie: "Octavia," from 1985. It's a pretty obscure movie, but it's about a blind woman who goes barefoot all of the time. She does wear shoes for part of the movie, but she's not happy about it. She even says the line "Yuck! Shoes! I don't want them!"

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0087828/?ref_=fn_tt_tt_2

I am crazy to watch this Octavia but there is no streaming service in Amazon for this movie outside the USA and I don't have a VHS. sad.gif

Posted by: Southerncrossfire44 Mar 20 2015, 01:45 PM
Roose,

I know what you mean. "Octavia" is a hard movie to find. I first heard of it years ago, but wasn't able to see it until it was on Netflix streaming for a while (in the US). I think it's gone from there now, too.

I'm not sure it ever even got a DVD release, but I wish you good luck to you in finding it.

Posted by: Roose Mar 22 2015, 07:30 PM
I'm sure it didn't have a DVD release. There is VHS. I can buy it and watch in a friend's house but it's not the kind of movie I'd want to watch with another person.

Anyway, thanks a lot, Southerncrossfire44! [B]

Don't forget Sheena with Tanya Roberts....she was barefoot throughout the movie as the jungle girl. She insisted on being barefoot on location in Kenya, where the movie was filmed.

Posted by: michael0218 Mar 22 2015, 10:43 PM
Also there's Audrey Hepburn as the orphan living in the wilderness barefoot in Green Mansions in 1959.

Anyone here like zombie movies?

How about "Dawn of the Dead" 2004 version. Not the best zombie movie out there but it came out mostly before the zombie craze. One of the main character's husband becomes a zombie early on at home and chases his wife barefoot out of their house. She goes barefoot in the city and then into a shopping mall.

There is a 1978 version but I have not watched it yet and do not know if there is a barefoot woman in that movie also.

There is the movie Slither from 1973. Sally Kellerman is barefoot in a scene where she is parked in a road and using a public cellphone. A policeman notices she is driving while barefoot and despite her protests that she has her shoes packed in her trunk he orders James Caan to be the designated driver for the barefoot Kitty. Very, very few but I thought that scene was lovely.

Interesting topic!!! Back to the original post - I remember seeing Bell, Book & Candle back about 10 years ago on TV and was quite taken by the sight of Kim doing her daily activities in her shop completely barefoot. I was however very disappointed when after learning that she always went to school in bare feet that she now wears shoes when going out in public. I could kind of sense what was going to happen at the end where she was in the shop ran outside completely barefoot, but again I was so disappointed that as soon as she hit the sidewalk she stopped, looking down at her feet - Kind of like she was reflecting back on her past barefooting with a sense of shame.

There are actually a lot of films out there with great barefoot content and a lot of the ones listed on here are very good. I often think that horror movies do the best barefoot scenes, especially the old ones that were filmed in actual locations rather than in a clean studio in front of a green screen.

Here's some nice stills of barefoot Kim Novak on her page at Wikifeet

One I really love is of her with a broom...a barefoot girl sweeping a dirty floor is a real turn on for me, because it's almost a given that she'll pick up more dirt on her feet than with the broom. cool.gif

MARK OF THE WITCH, an early 70's US horror film. The openning scene shows a witch being led to the gallows to be hanged.
She is barefooted, and her feet are very muddy. Not only that, there are multaple close-ups of her feet!
(I've taken scans of this scen; PM me, if interested.)
