My wife of nearly 9 years is originally from New Zealand, where going barefoot is considered part of the culture. When we were first married, she went barefoot constantly, but eventually the cold stares and rude glances got the best of her and she began wearing shoes (usually flip flops, thankfully). She'd occasionally go into the gas station barefoot, but that's about it.

Over the past six months, she's begun going barefoot in public again. Not constantly, but at least one day a week when we're out shopping. She'll go barefoot anywhere but in a restaurant.

She's also begun wearing toe rings like she did when we first met. She has three on each foot that she hasn't taken off since she put them on.

She's a runner, and has done a little barefoot running. She's agreed to run barefoot from now on. I'll try to get some pictures tomorrow.

Where do you live now?
Since she always goes barefoot and you said she'll go barefoot anywhere, how tough are her soles.
I see black soles don't seem to bother her.

We live in the Southern US.

She used to have much tougher soles than she does now, since she took several years off from barefooting. The other night, however, she walked about half a mile on a gravel road without too much difficulty.

Very cool having a wife that's that down to earth and natural,,not to mention cute

I've dated many barefoot gals. They seem to be more free spirited and out going.
Have you seen Cecilia or the update with Knesia?
Can she do or could she have done obstackles like that? (rocks, cans, glass or cigs)

Maybe she'll let you get some outside when walking, like on the gravel road or even a video.

I think she'll do rocks, but I'm not so sure about the rest. Her soles used to be quite tough, but she's just now getting back into being barefoot, so the gravel is an issue of mind over matter.

I'll definitely take some pictures of her on the gravel road.

Oh yes, they are quite tough, not hard like dry callous, but smooth and leathery....she easily does all surfaces without flinching, but I especially love to put her to test with temperature extremes, trying to discover her limit...and have almost gone too far, this past summer during heat wave she went so far for so long it actually caused some blisters to rise, even on her tough soles, but she was a trooper about it and didn't complain. We have taken trips to the beach for 9 days at a time and I don't allow her to bring any shoes at all. My favorite though is our barefoot in snow time, we live in northeast USA and she does a lot of winter barefooting, I like to take her shopping and watch the other guys check out her bare feet with admiration and envy. We have litterally hiked through snow covered forest for hours while she was barefooted, stopping only occasionally when her feet become numb for me to warm them under my shirt, and I love that every Valentines Day, no matter what the weather, (although there is usually snow and slush on the ground), she dresses up and we go out for the night to dinner and movies and she leaves the house always barefoot knowing we will be gone for hours. We always attend our local Christmas parade with her in bare feet. We are planning a trip to an amusement park, hopefully very soon while heat wave persists, and I have already told her the only shoes she is allowed are her barefoot sandals, lots of scorching hot asphalt, but she has agreed, so I will try to post some moe photos then......

Last night when I got home from work my wife tells me that she is going to give me a barefoot night out even though we were already scheduled to go to a public meeting with many people. We went to eat and meeting and my wife never even considered bringing shoes. Open the photo in Flikr, copy the url (the address in the top box of your explorer)
and paste it in the text of your post.
Photobucket actually has a drop down that sayes "image"

What is the name of your Flikr account? Like "footcrzy photostream" ?

Not sure why the links don't work for anyone else, they work fine for me, I copied page url in for link, but if link doesn't work for you, you can go to my flickr account which is actually footcrzy2, and check my photostream......just spent day at the zoo 2 days ago, 2 hours from home, 8 hours at zoo, and restaurant stops and she had no shoes with her at all, I was just a little disappointed that the temperature did not get as hot as I like, the asphalt was hot, but not scorching....I don't want her to blister her soles again, but I like it to push her limits, borderline unbearable is best, lol, oh well, still some summer days left so there's still hope and then we are planning a 2day, 80 mile barefoot bike ride in the fall when the weather turns cold.....try this link to see her zoo feet..... http://m.flickr.com/#/photos/41779339@N02/6076609758/

Thank you very much for the compliment, I think she has beautiful feet and I love to take her out and watch other men notice them with envy. Actually in that photo her feet are in snow and ice, she has great tolerance for extreme temperatures and I try to take advantage of that, although I'm sure she would have no trouble with broken glass also. As for a burning cigarette, I am certain it would not be a problem, she actually stepped on a burning cigarette accidentally last year while walking barefoot on the hot asphalt at a car show and hardly noticed......however, neither of us smoke.

Since she likes to test her ability. Maybe she can make an "extreme" series sorta
like Cecilia is doing.
Black soles walking on sharp stones, glass and you could get some cigars or cigarettes just for the demonstration.
I am sure she'd have a great following.
Even a video series, since she goes everwhere barefoot, and run updates like
Polina and Cecilia do

while there's is still nice weather here in the states.

Thank you again, yes she is wonderful to me, as a matter of fact, she only goes barefoot so much because she knows I enjoy it not because she doesn't like shoes. So although she has become somewhat accustomed to the attention she attracts, she doesn't enjoy it as much as I do. She tells me that she is barefoot for me and she wants me to enjoy it but she is opposed to the additional attention that a camera attracts, so in public I try to be careful to honor her wish since she is so good to me. However, I am hoping for some private photo opportunities this fall and winter, indoors and out, weather is not an issue and I will b happy to share with you whatever photos I am able to get. We are planning an 80 mile overnight bike trip in October, barefoot of course and possibly another zoo trip or theme park around Halloween. And we have been discussing a private cabin in the mountains in the winter and she has agreed, no shoes allowed for me to fulfill any fantasies I desire with her......but I must confess, I truly admire Hal and Paul and these other photographers who are able to take such wonderful pictures to share weigh us, because when she is submitting to me like that, I am sorry, but taking pictures to share with you guys is the last thing on my mind. We are taking a cruise in September and I told her she could take her barefoot sandals....keep you posted .....

Well, we are back from our cruise and unfortunately I had to purchase a cheap pair of flip flops on the island for my wife. The heat on the islands was making the asphalt blistering hot even for her tough soles and I didn't want to ruin our trip because she couldn't walk. She still gave me lots of barefoot time including 1 day where we walked the beach and coastline for about 5 miles and we were forced to travel streets and sidewalks to continue. During this walk she picked up a piece of broken glass in her foot on 1 of the sidewalks that was covered in glass and debris. She had no shoes with her at all. Last night we had a barefoot evening out where she ia not allowed any shoes no matter where we go. It was a cool fall evening so I decided on a trip to the local park, followed by dinner at a nearby restaurant and then a movie. About 5 hours total. I was able to take a few shots with my phone at the park, not the greatest quality, but I hope you can enjoy. Thank you, again, I apologize for my difficulty in posting links and the quality of the pics my phone provides and I truly appreciate your comment. As I said, my wife does not like to draw the attention that a camera brings in public, although she doesn't seem to mind that people notice she is barefoot. I guess the difference is simly a lifestye choice as opposed to exibitionist. I do hope, however, sometime soon, as the weather becomes colder to do a private outdoor shoot with a good camera. She is preparing herself for the colder weather to come by gradually acclimating her little bare feet. Again we made another barefoot evening out last night. The weather was worse than before, 48 degrees F and raining. We were out for about 3 hours, cold, wet, dirty feet. Lovely.

Love hearing about your wife going barefoot for you. What does she usually wear when she goes out for the evening barefoot with no shoes with her? Is she in a dress or skirt so that her legs and barefeet are clearly visible. Also, does she usually wear nail polish when she goes barefoot in public.

DG, check out the pictures I posted on Cecilia's thread, Winter Sunday in basketball, we went out for a late evening walk thru the park at 6 degrees Celsius for about an hour and a half, over 2 miles and she had no shoes with her at all. Her feet were freezing, we are getting ready for our local Christmas parade next week, and she will be going completely barefoot except for leg warmers. We will walk more than a mile to watch parade, then it usually lasts for several hours before the long, cold walk home again. I'm hoping for temperatures near freezing.....

Since my last post in this thread, my wife has become a 90% public barefooter. The only times she wears shoes is when we go into a restaurant or it's freezing outside.

She's training to run a marathon barefoot (she already ran a half-marathon barefoot last October, and ran one in November in huaraches), and has decided that the best way to toughen her feet is to go barefoot all the time.

She's a bit of a non-conformist, and has finally decided that she really doesn't care what people think of her. We're planning a 3/4 sleeve tattoo as a present for our anniversary this year, and I told her that she should go ahead and get used to people starting at her.

Recently we've begun to run into people we know when she is barefoot. They don't seem surprised. She's a native New Zealander, and lots of folks know that they sometimes don't like to wear shoes. Most of them already know that she's a barefoot runner, and we get a little leeway for being artists.

thank you very much for share these wonderful bare feets with us. it's great to know that she going to be a 24/7 barefooter. Her feet are very pretty and she can be proud to life barefoot and to share that.

That's great she's going back to being at least a 23/7 barefooter

What is her goal?
Does she want to toughen her feet up Cecilia?
Does she want to be able to walk on gravel,guess she already does that, or
broken glass or put cigarettes out barefoot?
Maybe she could get a diary like the other girls?

I see a trend forming, and I like it. For the longest time you would never even find a women in here.
Now we have 3 diaries going and more barefoot wifes and girlfriends. Finally the social stigma of women having to wear shoes is disappearing and that down to earth, more natural attitude from the 70's is reappearing. ( Check out my last forum posts under "To walk or not to walk" from YouTube) Maybe she can do some also.
Like 1 gal put it, shoes are an accessory, not a necessity.
Tell your wife like many other women, she looks very cute barefoot.

I haven't posted in awhile, but I wanted to mention that my wife is still barefoot in public about 95% of the time. She's even started going barefoot in a few restaurants, which she was very nervous about. In five months, she's only been harassed twice, and she's started to develop a thick skin about the stares. A couple of times, she's noticed guys checking out her feet.

I have a bunch of pics that I've taken in the past couple of months. Honestly, though, she's going barefoot so often now that the novelty has worn off and I'm not taking as many pictures.

I'll post pics when I have time.

It's always a pleasure to see a very attractive gal go barefoot.
I like how she was texting or something on her phone while walking on gravel like
it was nothing.
To bad the novelty is wearing off. You're a lucky guy to have such a beautifull
free spirited natural lady.
Maybe she could have a diary like Nastya and Cecilia.
We would love to see a video of her walking, like at the nursery on the gravel.

For the most part gravel doesn't bother her. There's a road near our house that she used to have a hard time walking on, but she tried it again after about 4 months without shoes (for the most part) and it was as natural as walking on a smooth surface. She can walk on some pretty intense gravel at a good pace.

Hot asphalt also doesn't seem to be much of a problem for her.

Her soles are mainly like thick, supple leather. They seem tougher than they were, but not as much as you'd expect for someone who can handle the kind of surfaces she can. Sometimes they get rough if she's been running a lot, but it's getting hot here so we're not going to the track very often these days.

My wife's feet don't *look* super tough, but they are. They were much rougher when she was running regularly, due to the abrasion. Now that it's too hot here to do much outside, her soles are like supple leather.

She's currently able to walk on pretty sharp gravel as if she were shod, and has regularly been traversing asphalt parking lots in 104�F heat. She's gotten one small blister on the edge of her sole, but she didn't feel it.

Most of the time, she doesn't even consider wearing shoes, and has even been going barefoot in restaurants half the time. The only place she really won't go barefoot is in a public bathroom, but she's even made exceptions to that from time to time.

I wonder how many minutes she can stand on 104F before beginning to visibly suffer. 104F=40C ... at 42/43 my girlfriend has not more than about ten minutes, then strengths are gone and she can't concentrate any more, to hide she's in trouble.

I love how black her soles were in the one barefoot shopping photo.
If she would endulge you, could you get some close ups of walking on sharp gravel?
I'd love to see how black she can get her soles.

I know I mention this before, but since she is so resistant to hot pavement, what
would she do if she encountered a lit cigarette on the ground? Could she step on it
barefoot?

After months of resistance, my wife has started going barefoot in restaurants. She's more likely to do this in smaller, more low-brow establishments, or when she's wearing jeans rather than capris. Unfortunately, I couldn't get better shots on my iPhone. I didn't want to draw unwanted attention. She likes me taking photos, but doesn't necessarily want people to know what I'm doing!

Yesterday, we went to a nursery to buy herbs for an indoor garden. Two highlights to the trip. The first was that there is sharp gravel everywhere, and she didn't even flinch.

The second was that there was an older woman who got a weird look on her face and said "do you mind if I ask you something personal? Are you barefoot?" My wife was wearing her barefoot sandals, and lifted up her feet to show the lady, who then made a huge deal about how she liked to go barefoot herself, how neat it was, how she's going to get some for herself and her granddaughter, and how she's going to start wearing them to church. When we got to the car, my wife was beaming. She's used to people giving her dirty looks or making snide comments, and got a lot of mileage out of the woman's interest and kind words.

I'm not sure she'd even notice it. The asphalt around here has gotten extremely hot lately, and she's able to walk on it at a leisurely pace. She's stepped on some glass recently (we live in a college town, ahem...) and just picks it out and keeps going.

Would she be up for the cigarette test?

Yep. It's the same nursery.

I don't have any new photos of her soles, unfortunately. She's training for a couple of half-marathons this year, so possibly later on...

She's already run two half-marathons barefoot, and one in huaraches.

She trains barefoot. She considers her barefoot lifestyle part of her training. That's how it started, anyway. Now, she just prefers not to wear shoes.

The trail varies. One of them is in a beach town and many of the trails are littered with oyster shells.

Nothing particularly special, just an average day out shopping.

Today was in the high 90s, and we crossed a freshly surfaced parking lot around 5pm, after it had been absorbing heat all day. She told me that she didn't think she could handle it. She managed to walk across it without flinching.

She said it was hot, but that her soles didn't hurt at all.

Hopefully, I'll be able to get some video of her crossing the pavement in front of one of those big bank signs that display the time and temperature.

She hasn't worn shoes at all in the past week at all, and it if it weren't for a funeral and a visit to the doctor, she wouldn't have worn them in over a month. She's getting to the point where she can handle not only rough terrain, but also stares and comments from people in public.

I think she's enjoying being the eccentric artist girl. We've been running into our friends and acquaintances in public places, and it doesn't seem to phase her at all. I think part of it is that we're both artists, and it's kind of expected, and part of it is that she's a New Zealander, and going barefoot in public is a cultural norm.

She was barefoot the entire camping trip. I'm not sure, but I don't think she brought shoes along at all. A month ago, she'd put a pair of flip-flops in her bag, just in case, but lately, she's just been leaving them at home.

If I were to calculate the amount of time she's worn shoes in the past year, it would be well under ten hours, if even that.

Nope. No pain at all. She seems to be able to handle most terrain and temperatures with no problem. This summer, she was walking over fresh blacktop in mid-afternoon when it was 100 F in bright sunlight. Not a flinch or a blister.

A few photos taken over the past couple of days. It's been relatively cold here; not freezing, but almost. Favorite quote from today: "I think I like being barefoot in the cold better because when people look at me you know they're thinking how tough I am. When it's warm out, they just think I'm weird!"

She's barely worn shoes at all this year. I think her record was 20 days barefoot, broken because of a trip to the dentist.

I'd say she's a 23.75/7 barefooter.

She wore shoes to the dentist's office a few days ago, and will wear shoes (most of the time) if we go out to dinner with my parents.

In the past week, in addition to shopping, she's been barefoot to a concert and an art exhibition. A few weeks ago, she wore shoes to some cultural events, but realized that it was entirely unnecessary. She'll go barefoot to most of the restaurants we usually frequent. And she's run three half-marathons barefoot in the past couple of years.

Except for a few rare moments, she's been almost constantly barefoot for over a year.

She did get in trouble last night at Target.
